FAQ

Q. How many sessions per program?

A. The program is designed to be flexible and adapted to meet the needs of each individual class and school. The foundation of the course is based on 4 x 60 minute lessons per week over the course of the school term (9-10 weeks), plus a minimum of 2 half day outings.

Q. Where are the half day outings?

A. Outings are an essential part of this interactive program and have included the following empowering experiences to date; such as visiting the Crusaders at Rugby Park, delivering baking to the City Mission, class walk along the Bridle Path (Canterbury) and participating in a Waka Ama team building challenge.

Q. Will Norm MAxwell be attending all sessions?

A. Yes!! As the founder of this program he plays an integral part of the course and is a fantastic mentor and role model for the participants. How amazing for these children to build such a close connection with a national sporting legend and hero! Norm is not only a rugby guru and specialist coach, but has a vast array of knowledge to gift having completed mentoring, mindfulness and counselling courses.

Q. Will other specialist's be involved in implementing the Aotearoa Heart Program?

A. Absolutely, the Aotearoa Heart Program is designed to be a collaboration between a range of people and experts.. At present we have the amazing support of Tilak Raj, a PHd student from Lincoln University and specialist yoga dosen to help implement our daily yoga mindfulness exercises.

Q. I am a friend/fan of Norm Maxwell’s can I be of help?

A. Yes please. We are always looking for people to volunteer their skills and knowledge so the Aotearoa Heart Program can flourish and support our taonga (treasured children) to the best of our collective abilities. For example we would love support with developing and improving this website and all other social media platforms, fundraising suggestions and support, grant applications and advice, accounting help or assistance, counsellors, specialist teachers, passionate experts and mentors etc, etc….

Our aim is to build a village of likeminded social conscious individuals to support as many children both nationally and globally as possible.

Q. How many classes will you be working with each year?

A. A pilot program has been implemented at Seven Oaks School in Halswell, Christchurch and depending on funding a further 3 - 6 more programs will hopefully be initiated in Christchurch in 2020. An estimated 1 - 2 classes per term is practical at present to ensure the upmost quality. We would love to continue to grow and improve this program from 2020 and beyond!
